アイラク偽心 (Airaku nise kokoro) by 游彩 (Yusai)

After the sudden last-minute withdrawal of vocalist 唄 (Riku) in the guys’ previous project ジン (ZIN) guitarist Luy stepped up to take the position of vocalist for the remaining live shows that were planned. This decision was so well received that the remaining members decided to continue with Luy on vocals, but after releasing one single the band announced they would disband, but come back as a different project soon. And that project was 游彩 (Yusai). For this project Luy changed his name to 雨音 類 (Amane). Their first release was announced shortly after, and after the 焔ノトモシビ (Honoo no Tomoshibi) single I couldn’t wait to see what 雨音 類 (Amane) was capable of when he didn’t have 唄 (Riku)’s shoes to fill on stage.

アイラク偽心 (Airaku nise kokoro)

(Composed by 慶 (Yoshi), lyrics by 雨音 類 (Amane).)
Just like the theme of their previous band, the guys have held on to the mixture of traditional influence with the modern one, creating a fast-paced song which is surprisingly upbeat, yet soothing with 雨音 類 (Amane)’s voice seeming to lead the instruments. When his pace picks up, so do the instrumentals. Opposed to the previous release which was quite “safe” in terms of his vocal range, he quickly goes all out on this one, demonstrating his range in both highs and lows as well as speed. All performed in a skilled way to create a very catchy upbeat song combining various speeds and styles in a harmonious way.
The music video for this song is very colorful (despite being filmed mostly in darker light and indoors), filmed in and outside of a temple featuring vocalist 雨音 類 (Amane) in two different styles of clothing (one “flashy” and one “normal” kimono) as well as a large fan, while the other members have also held on to their personal styles from before, but in matching style and color to their vocalist.

色暮 (Iro kure)
(Composed by 慶 (Yoshi), lyrics by 雨音 類 (Amane).)
The second song of the single changes the pace to an even faster one, making more use of the traditional instruments before the guitar, bass and drums join in. Despite the higher pace 雨音 類 (Amane)’s vocals are slower and very determined, creating the feel one would get during a training montage in a martial arts movie while at the same time being very soothing. The pace of the song slows down slightly after the introduction, but keeps it’s determined pace throughout the entire song. Very fitting for a movie soundtrack while still very much their own style they have already showed before, just more refined.

地団駄序曲 (Jidanda jokyoku)
(Composed by 慶 (Yoshi), lyrics by 雨音 類 (Amane).)
Quite easily the fastest, most chaotic song on the single, even though you will only find it on the regular edition. It starts off with a fast pace and a whistle by 雨音 類 (Amane) before his vocals change style various times to create different scenarios within the song. The absolute best part is the build up from bassist 大蛇 (Orochi) before joining with guitarist 慶 (Yoshi) for the instrumental solo in the middle of the song. With this style it feels like 雨音 類 (Amane) has demonstrated his skills very well, proving to anyone that he isn’t just a one-trick pony who can only sing in a very limited range.

Conclusion:

Overall this single feels like a chronological story with it’s three songs. Every member demonstrated their skills in their own way while holding on to their style and personality they were each known for. The biggest change is definitely the vocalist, not just in sound, but also in visual style. From somewhat goofy guitarist to confident vocalist is quite a big step, and 雨音 類 (Amane) definitely put the bar pretty high up for himself.
Personally I am really looking forward to their future works, if only to see how far they can take the neo-traditional theme without it becoming repetitive or boring. I have definitely enjoyed this single, and have been looking forward to it since it was announced, along with it’s preview.

Final score: 85/100
